    There are just a few distinct uses for the bezel, which is the ring that surrounds the watch face. Since the spinning bezel of a dive watch is typically calibrated with indicators that represent minutes, it is frequently used as a "countdown timer," much like other sports watches. You can thus measure the amount of time you have underwater simply turning it so that it lines up with the minute hand when you dive in with your scuba gear.
